Missouri slows tax refunds, borrows from cash reserves

Missouri has slowed its tax refunds and borrowed $325 million from cash reserves to pay bills and employees.

Usually, the state hires 300 temporary staffers to help process tax returns, but with the budget crunch and state job cuts this year, the state hired 127 temps this tax season, said Ted Farnen, a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Revenue.
